GIrls Varsity Basketball tops Bishop Diego
The Cate Girls Varsity Basketball team pulled out a win in the last few seconds of the last game of the Bird Cage Classic tournament. After losing to Bishop Diego a little more than one week ago, Cate was ready for redemption. The girls started strong and kept a lead throughout almost the entire game. It was not until the last few minutes of the last quarter that Bishop, after making a few three point shots, tied the Rams and then were up by two. With less than a minute to go, Morgan Prinz shot, made the shot, and was fouled. Morgan made her free throw, and the three point swing was the lead that Rams needed. Amber Thiery sealed the deal with a made free throw, and the Rams pulled out the win.
Amber had a total of 9 points for the game, and did an incredible job leading the team and running the offense. Piper Brooks also played incredibly well in the guard position, with very little turnovers and extremely consistent play. The post players were definitely stars of the game. Morgan played extremely tough defense for the entire game and scored 9 points. Elle Smith was a consistent force under the basket scoring 8 points and pulling down a bunch of rebounds. Maya Blattberg created many opportunities in the offense. She finished with 1 point and had many assists. Georgia Douglas scored 2 points and also pulled down a bunch of rebounds.
Head Coach Amy Venditta remarked, “It was a really great team effort and team win and a great way to end the first half of the season.” The Rams’ next game is on January 7th at Fillmore.
