Winter 2016 - 2017

Girls Soccer

The Cate girls soccer programs strives to cultivate and develop fundamental skills in a supportive team-based environment. Our team success is a by-product of hard work, consistency and self-discipline. We aim to instill a life-long passion for the beautiful game through daily preparation, training and competition while helping young people apply the lessons learned to life off of the pitch and in the classroom as well.

Girls Varsity Soccer Opens League Play Against Bishop Diego

The girls’ varsity soccer team traveled to Santa Barbara yesterday to play Bishop Diego in our first league game of the season. Cate jumped out to an early lead in the 7th minute of the game when Sophie Johnson scored off a corner kick from Isabela Montes De Oca. Bishop responded two minutes later with their own goal to even the score. The same Bishop player would score three more times in that first half and as the fans became more vocal and the Bishop players more energized, we lost our focus and welcomed the ½ time whistle.

We regrouped in the break and in the second half we played a better, more organized defense and pushed the Bishop defense in ways that we did not in the first half. We held Bishop scoreless in the second half but were only able to net one goal in the 40 minutes. Ellie Vogel took advantage of a scramble in front of the Bishop net and put a hard shot past the Bishop keeper for our second goal. A few additional scoring opportunities did not yield the goals we needed and the 80-minute game ended with a 4-2 loss. We’ll work on our defense and our passing today in preparation for a game tomorrow at Laguna Blanca. This young team will continue to work hard and improve; and we very much look forward to another shot at the Bishop Diego team in January.
