BA, Goucher College
Emilie grew up in a Navy family and spent her early years moving around the United States. Although changing schools every two years was difficult, she learned a lot about being adaptable and loved every place she lived. After graduating from Goucher College with a BA in English and Secondary Education, she began her career in the Baltimore, Maryland public school system teaching 8th grade English. She then taught reading and English for six years at an independent school in Massachusetts.
In 1985 she made the move across the country to teach English and serve as the assistant dean of students at Cate. Emilie began working in the college counseling office in 1986 and became the director of college counseling in 1990. After a year-long sabbatical during the 2012-2013 academic year, she returned to Cate in 2013 as an assistant director of admission, a faculty member in the English department, and a writer and editor in the communications department. This year she continues her work in the admissions office as the director of financial aid, and she will again be teaching two sections of 10th grade English.
In her free time Emilie enjoys gardening, reading, walking on the Cate trails or nearby beaches, and spending time with her family.
