BA, San Jose State University
Jessica Block's talents as a director surfaced in her youth as early development teachers affectionately dubbed her the Field Marshall's of the playground. While some might have described these traits as "bossy" in a five year old, they are now tempered with a teaching style that is both loving and demanding, often described by students simply as fun. After graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from San Jose State University, Jessica performed with regional theatre and opera companies until one audition brought her to a small troupe in Alaska. North to the Future (the state motto) proved prophetic as she fell in love with the stage manager and settled down in Anchorage. Her work in building a highly successful performing arts program for Pacific Northern Academy, a K- 12 independent school, was recognized by the city garnering her the 2004 Music Teacher of the Year award proffered by the Anchorage Concert Association. While both her career and her family grew and flourished, a tempting opportunity to build a brand new drama program at the Alexander Dawson School resulted in a move to Las Vegas. Although closer to friends and family in her native California, the desert never felt quite like home.
